Want them to be different, but don’t know how to move forward?
Work with me to discover new strategies or skills, new understandings about emotional health.
Each session begins by listening to your story, really hearing you. Then we will work together to find solutions which are right for you, so that you can move forward to a better place, step by step.
It’s surprising how much difference small changes can make. It may take a few sessions or a bit longer. . . we will go at the pace that works for you.
About Therapy
When you first get in touch, we’ll usually arrange a free 15–20 minute phone or Zoom call. This gives us both the chance to see if I’m the right therapist for you.
During our sessions, you can expect me to listen carefully and without judgement. I won’t tell you what to do, but I may ask thoughtful questions to help you better understand what you’re experiencing and why.
Once we’ve explored what’s going on for you, we’ll work together to identify what you’d like to change and look at ways to help you move towards that.
Then together we'll use a combination of your abilities, and resources and my knowledge and training to work out a practical plan to move you forward. From the first session I will work to help you feel better, more hopeful and forward looking.
About Anne Humphreys
I am a qualified psychotherapist with a Diploma in Human Givens Psychotherapy (H.G.Dip.P.)
I’ve always been someone who listens. As a child, I loved hearing my grandmother’s stories, not realising that this early curiosity about people and their experiences would shape my future work.
My path into psychotherapy has taken a few turns, but every step taught me something. I began by studying biology and working as a lab technician. This scientific training still influences how I understand explain the connection between mind, body, and emotions. I later trained and worked as a landscape architect for ten years, giving me first-hand experience of the pressures and challenges of working life.
After having children, I trained as a person-centred breastfeeding counsellor. Over the next twenty years, I supported parents through what can be an intense and emotional time, helping them find ways forward that felt right for them. For twelve of those years, I ran a weekly drop-in group, offering a warm, supportive space for women to be heard and understood.
I came to Human Givens psychotherapy after seeing the difference it could make, both personally and in others. It felt like a natural next step—allowing me to build on my experience and support people with a wider range of challenges, including anxiety, stress, low mood, and life transitions. In my work,
I focus on helping you feel better as quickly as possible, while also supporting deeper understanding and lasting change. I offer a calm, practical, and compassionate space where you can talk openly, make sense of what’s going on, and discover how to move forward with more confidence.
Alongside my practice, I continue to volunteer at a local breastfeeding support group. Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, cooking, dancing, writing, and spending time with my family.
I wanted to thank you for the three sessions. They have been genuinely transformative and although behaviour change is in its early stages, as you mentioned last week, it seems like something has clicked. . . . I wanted to write to thank you for genuinely having a profound impact on how I conduct my life.
I was impressed by how Anne not only understood the issues that I came to her with, but rapidly seemed to identify the essence of my difficulties. She sensitively explored my concerns and together we came up with some solutions. I found her to be a patient listener with an astute aptitude for helping me make the necessary changes.
I came to Anne at a time where I was really struggling with my mental health. By listening and tailoring the sessions to what I needed, I feel like me again, but with a toolkit to support me when times inevitably do get tougher again.
Anne is fantastic - she has really helped me turn my life around. If I could use three words to describe her style - patient, kind, accountability.
What is Human Givens therapy?
Human Givens is a practical, forward-focussed, and evidence-based approach to psychotherapy that focuses on what people need to live mentally healthy and fulfilling lives. It draws on insights from neuroscience and psychological research, alongside effective techniques from a range of therapeutic approaches.
At its core is the idea that we all share essential emotional needs, such as connection with others, time for rest and reflection, a sense of autonomy, belonging, and meaning or purpose. When these needs are not met, emotional distress can arise.
We are also born with innate resources to help meet these needs, including memory, imagination, the ability to build relationships, and natural emotional responses that guide us.Human Givens therapy works by helping people use these resources more effectively to restore balance and wellbeing. Developed in the 1990s, it continues to evolve, with growing evidence supporting its effectiveness.
I will aim to have as few sessions as possible to achieve your goals, while going at the pace that is right for you.
Sometimes only a few sessions are required. A chance to talk things through, or to learn a few new strategies or skills, take on board mindset shifts or new understandings about emotional health.
Sometimes it takes a little longer to gradually move things forward to a better place, to shift old patterns into new, healthier ways.
Where do you work?
I have a dedicated therapy room in a calm, peaceful garden surrounded by common land. It’s a quiet relaxing space which is very secluded. There is parking on site and a toilet available.
I can also in certain circumstance do home visits.
